The History of REAGIT and the Engineering Centre
Swarm REAGIT Engineering Centre is bringing engineering training back to Norfolk! For years, the East Anglian Group for Industrial Training (EAGIT) was a trusted name among engineering professionals. It trained apprentices to a high standard, ensuring a steady stream of skilled engineers for the industry.
However, in 2014, due to financial and industry-wide challenges making it unviable to continue, EAGIT closed its doors. This left a major gap in the market. Aspiring engineers lost a key training resource, and businesses struggled to find skilled staff.
In 2019, Norfolk-based couple Wayne and Louisa Stannett saw an opportunity. With a deep passion for engineering training, they revived the EAGIT name and mission. They launched REAGIT—The Revamped East Anglian Group for Industrial Training.
Finding the right location took time. However, in 2022, they secured a 20,000-square-foot space on the upper floor of the former ATB Lawrence Scott site in Norwich. This historic building had long been a part of Norfolk’s engineering legacy. A memorial inside honours the engineers who worked there during World War II, including those who never returned from the front. Adding to its significance, the building once housed an apprenticeship school. Certainly, this made it the perfect place to train the next generation.
Over the next year, Wayne, Louisa, and their dedicated team got to work. They repaired floors and ceilings, built partition walls, installed welding bays and electrical training booths. In addition to this, they set up two classrooms and a spacious office. Their hard work paid off.
In May 2023, Swarm officially partnered with REAGIT to provide top-tier engineering apprenticeships across the region. Just a few months later, in September, the first cohort of apprentices walked through the doors. What an exciting new chapter for both businesses!
Since then, Wayne and Louisa have worked closely with Swarm’s leadership to form Swarm REAGIT and the Swarm REAGIT Engineering Centre. Today, they offer six diverse engineering apprenticeships, ensuring a bright future for engineering talent in East Anglia.
