Wonderful Work Experience!
By working as an apprentice, you can enjoy hands-on experience, alongside learning the theory of your role.
Sometimes our apprentices have to pinch themselves when that work experience provides opportunities they had never expected!
Here’s a recent reflection from Robbie Knight, currently employed at ITV and working towards his Market Research Executive L4 Apprenticeship:-
Through my mentor at work I was lucky enough to get a chance to shadow a floor manager at ITV Daytime during a live broadcast of This Morning. This was a really exciting opportunity as it is an area of the business my team never gets to come across and production is a big interest of mine.
The day began at 08:30, where I met the floor manager at Television Centre and was taken through to the studio; I also managed to catch the end of Good Morning Britain too which was fascinating to see in person!
Rehearsals for This Morning began at 09:00, where they also pre-filmed some segments to slot into the live broadcast. I watched the cameras get set up as well as some elements of the set be constructed and most exciting of all (for me) was watching Fairground Attraction rehearse Perfect!
Once the show had begun, I followed one of the floor assistants to call guests up to the studio from hair and makeup; one of them was Vanessa Feltz (it's all sounding a bit surreal now but that's how it felt!) and another was a Labour MP.
I continued to watch the broadcast of the show which included a segment on some of Shirley Bassey's gowns, a panel debate, several interviews and a cooking segment.
Seeing some of our content on a much closer level was really thrilling for me, as we normally only get to analyse the effectiveness of the idents that run alongside our programmes!
The work experience ended at 12:45 after the show ended at 12:30 and I watched the crew pack everything away ready for Thursday's broadcast. Overall, I found the experience to be really rewarding, as it was an opportunity to see one of the more practical and exciting areas of the business!
